According to Hindu’s legend Amarnath is regarded as one of the holiest of Hindu’s shrines and enclosed within the snowy mountains. Most of the time, the cave is fully engulfed in snow. During summer, the cave opens for the pilgrims for a short time period, as that time it is not covered with snow.
To worship this holy ice stalagmite which is formed inside the cave, lakhs of devotees come for the holy pilgrimage of Amarnath Yatra. After performing challenging mountainous terrain, pilgrims come to the Amarnath Cave Temple. It is situated in Pahalgam, Anantnag.
The usual temperature is 15 to -5 degree C. Thus, it would be advisable for the pilgrims to carry woolen clothes, stockings, trousers, jacket, raincoat, umbrella, waterproof shoes, flash light, walking stick, cap and gloves.
The holy shrine of Amarnath is well connected with air, rail and road. You can board flight from the nearest aerodrome at Srinagar. The nearest railway station is at Jammu. And for those who are interested in journey by road, then no need to worry, as Jammu is well connected to Pahalgam and Baltal.
