Recently the Shrine board has made announcement for the 55 day long sacred Amarnath pilgrimage. Amarnath is the Lord Shiva’s holy Himalayan cave Shrine in the South Kashmir. According to the announcement, all the pilgrims need to submit their health certificate while registration.

During the meeting of Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) which was presided by the Chairman and the Jammu Kashmir Governor N N Vohra, this decision was made. The holy shrine is positioned at an altitude of 13,500 meters which is accessible by two ways, Pahalgam and Baltal.

The traditional route of Pahalgam comprises of a trek of 46 km from the Pahalgam tourist resort which is 100 kms from the South of Srinagar. On other hand, you can also opt for the route from Baltal which is 110 km North of Srinagar. This route is quite short, but it is steep and difficult trek.

The CEO of the shrine board has been directed to issues advisories clearly to the intended pilgrims stating the submission of compulsory health certificate from authorized doctors/ medical institutes.

The CEO on the website of the board will upload a state wise list of authorized doctors/medical institutes. According to the previous year stats, approximately 100 pilgrims were died during the pilgrimage, as most of the deceased have submitted fake medical certificates or did not follow the rules.
